The Maison du diable - Espace culturel de la Fondation Fellini in Sion is hosting the Wim Wenders exhibition, My polaroid friends, produced by Les Rencontres d'Arles for its 54th edition (2023) in collaboration with the Wim Wenders Foundation and Wenders Images. Wim Wenders is one of the greatest figures of contemporary cinema. Director of award-winning films such as Paris, Texas (1984) and Wings of Desire (1987), he has also made several Oscar-nominated documentaries, including Buena Vista Social Club, Pina and Salt of the Earth. Alongside his work as a director, producer and author, Wim Wenders has devoted himself to photography since 1984. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, and includes several 3D art installations. The Wim Wenders Foundation collects his work and supports innovative narratives by young filmmakers through the award of a grant.
"At the end of 1976," recalls Wim Wenders, "I shot [The American Friend] in Hamburg and Paris, with Bruno Ganz and Dennis Hopper. The script was adapted from Patricia Highsmith's novel [Ripley’s Game]. At the time, Polaroid cameras were the equivalent of the instant photos taken with today's smartphones - their analogue ancestors, in fact. Like diaries, the cameras produced 'original' prints.
