THE EXHIBITION

"It's terrible when the mind goes faster than ever, always faster, and the body can no longer obey it. It is like being trapped in someone else's body.

Federico Fellini, 1993

The Fellini Foundation presents the world premiere of the exhibition L'Ultima Scena - Fellini's Last Drawings, 1993, from the Collection of Dr. Anna Cantagallo, to mark the 30th anniversary of the Maestro's death. These drawings, made by Fellini during the last year of his life, have a very special status, as they testify to a reconquest in the face of illness of what was his way of being present to the whole of his work. Thanks to the good care and science of the Dottoressa Anna Cantagallo, little by little, with his recovered faculties, small graphic and poetic miracles come to life, where humour triumphs over death and emptiness. But this Ultima Scena, with its nods to the first drawings of Fellini's youth, is also the Maestro's Temps retrouvé, a loop that escapes the wrecks of age and carries away irreducible phantasmagorias, the shadows of Casanova, the elephants of Intervista, the scene of the peasant women on bicycles and the professoressa-tigressa of Amarcord, and finally a final self-portrait with laurel wreath (cover drawing), a derisory and magnificent symbol of an artist who created his empire under a circus tent.
